WoW Forever Legacy System: Points, Perks, Rewards & Unlocks
Understand Legacy unlocks, 65 challenges, account-wide points, the 16-point launch cap, perk trees and rewards. Beta access problems are separate player reports.
Quick answer
Legacy Points are account-wide progression with per-character perk allocation. October 8 now announces the 16-point Beta challenge grant as awarded, replacing the earlier future plan. The test respec rules are Beta-only. A remaining menu-access problem still needs a current-build report, not a promised addon workaround.
OfficialView evidence
What is Legacy, and how do you first unlock it?
Blizzard describes horizontal progression: earn a point at level 25, 150 in a non-gathering primary profession, or full-world exploration. Open the shield menu or default Y key. You do not need multiple characters to unlock all advantages. If your menu fails, distinguish the published requirement from a Beta access fault rather than assuming another level is always required.
65 Legacy Challenges: points by category
The official categories total 65: Classes 27, Tradeskills 18, PvP 12, Adventure 2, Dungeons 3 and Raids 3. Use the in-game challenge description to check the exact milestone before investing time. Completing a normal achievement is not automatically evidence that it awards a Legacy point.
Account-wide points, per-character allocation
Earned points are shared across the Battle.net account's non-Hardcore characters; each character allocates its own choices. Launch allocation is limited to 16 points per character even if the account earns more. A single character can earn 29 points. Editorial implication: choose perks for the character's activities, not as if assigning a point consumes a shared pool needed by an alt.
Professions, Adventure and Resourcefulness
Professions supports crafting and gathering; Adventure supports travel, rest and exploration; Resourcefulness supplies everyday conveniences. Inspect the current perk tooltip and prerequisites rather than treating an unreviewed planner as a final build. This guide does not rank a universal best tree or promise that a particular allocation maximizes XP or gold.
Legacy Rewards and future Hardcore rules
Launch rewards include Replica Ironforge Air Rifle, Spectral Bear Cub, Spectral Bear Tabard and the Spectral Bear mount. No reward-point thresholds are inferred here. Hardcore Legacy is planned later: Hardcore-earned challenges can benefit other rulesets, but non-Hardcore progress does not grant Hardcore points; replacement challenges are planned for its PvP category.
Beta testers: the announced 16-point grant
October 8 says the 16-point Beta grant has been awarded. This replaces the earlier planned grant; it is not a claim every previously blocked character's menu has been independently checked.
Level 25 or higher but Legacy will not open
October 3–5 players report an inaccessible menu at level 27; reload and keybind changes did not consistently help. One Questie installation anecdote is not an official or reliable fix. Record your first qualifying milestone, points shown, build and keybind. Try the existing menu and default binding once, then report the mismatch without deleting addon profiles or grinding extra levels as a guaranteed repair.
Keep Beta access separate from launch progression
A test-server menu bug does not replace the announced permanent unlock rules. Conversely, an official progression description is not proof every Beta account currently works. Recheck rules after launch rather than assuming a temporary grant, bug or test character becomes permanent account progress.
October 8: Beta Legacy grant is now announced as awarded
All Beta players have been granted challenge completion awarding 16 Legacy Points for testing. Beta respec cost starts at 1 silver and reduces by one respec per hour. These test-only rules must not be relabeled permanent launch rewards or a full live-menu recovery procedure.
