WoW Forever Classes: Choose Your Playstyle

Compare all nine WoW Forever classes by roles, combat style, core fantasy, and current Forever-specific changes before choosing your character.

Last checked October 16, 2026

Quick answer

Blizzard lists nine classes for WoW Forever. Start with the role you want—damage, tanking or healing—then choose between melee, ranged, pets or a flexible toolkit. Beta tuning is changing, so pick a playstyle you enjoy rather than a short-lived damage ranking. The roles below describe broad class options, not a promise about every spec or group composition.

How to choose your class

First decide whether you prefer close combat or attacking at range, then whether you want to deal damage only or also protect or heal a group. Hunter and Warlock offer companion gameplay; Druid and Shaman provide more varied toolkits. Solo and group comfort depends on your build, gear and the current Beta—not a fixed beginner score.

Race and class combinations

Your race limits which classes appear at character creation, and Forever adds combinations such as Orc Mage, Troll Warlock, Undead Paladin, Human Hunter, Gnome Priest and Dwarf Shaman. Blizzard lists Horde Windshaper Skyborne with Shaman and Alliance High-Order Skyborne with Mage. Use the linked official chart for the complete, changeable matrix.

What can still change

The September 24 Beta notes adjust several classes, but a single patch does not establish final balance, leveling speed or a best class. Recheck the live character-creation screen and new Blizzard notes before relying on a specific Beta talent or race combination.

Priest leveling choices

The Priest leveling guide separates announced Discipline, Holy and Shadow changes from dated Mana/wand experiences. It helps compare a current setup without an invented fastest route or level-60 ranking.

October 7–8 class changes: use the dated mechanic guides

The Mage/Shaman deep dive and October 8 balance notes revise abilities and resource behavior. Read the dedicated Frostfire Bolt and Totem guides for design details; October 8 also changes incoming Rage and several spell ranks. This is not a new class tier list or level-60 performance ranking.

Penance: read healing, damage and Mana separately

The dedicated Penance guide explains the October 8 correction, rank differences and limits of the current player evidence. Use it before treating a solo-damage complaint as a verdict on healing efficiency.

Race and class are separate current-build checks

October 15 changes several racials and class talents. Compare the dedicated racial-change guide with your class's current spell/talent text; an old weapon-specialization recommendation is not a current universal race ranking.

Choosing a class does not settle the race question: compare the October 15 Forever racial changes separately from class talents, without assuming an old weapon-specialization ranking still applies.
