WoW Forever Druid Shifting Power Explained
Understand Shifting Power and Improved Shifting Power in the updated Feral tree: official Mana-to-Energy conversion, talent placement, cooldown and unresolved build questions.
Quick answer
October 1 introduces Shifting Power in Feral row 4, connected to Shredding Attacks. In Cat Form it converts 55% of Base Mana into 40 Energy on a 16-second cooldown; shapeshifting cost reductions apply. Improved Shifting Power in row 5 reduces the cooldown by 4/8 seconds, reaching 8 seconds at two points. This is not proof of an optimal rotation or final gear choice.

Where are the talents?
Use the shipped October 1 notes: Shifting Power connects to Shredding Attacks in row 4; Improved Shifting Power connects to it in row 5. Earlier preview discussions used different row wording. Check your updated tree rather than copying a pre-patch screenshot or a Retail Mage ability with the same name.
Mana cost and Energy gain
The official rule gives 40 Energy for 55% of Base Mana, usable only in Cat Form. Base Mana is not your entire current gear-increased Mana pool. Blizzard says the cost equals Cat Form's Mana cost and is reduced by effects that reduce shapeshifting cost. That does not prove every particular item interaction works on your client.
Improved Shifting Power cooldown
The initial cooldown is 16 seconds. The improvement reduces it by 4 seconds at one point or 8 seconds at two points, giving 12 or 8 seconds respectively. This is cooldown reduction, not a promised increase to the 40-Energy reward or a passive Energy-regeneration buff.
Does it replace old powershifting?
The updated tree removes Tiger's Fury and King of the Jungle. Shifting Power explicitly converts resources in Cat Form; the notes do not require leaving and re-entering Cat to obtain its reward. Do not assume it inherits root-breaking, form-entry triggers or every Classic powershift macro interaction.
Related Bear and Feral changes
October 8 raises Druid critical-strike extra Rage to 100%, superseding the October 1 75% value. Incoming Rage fixes are separate from Cat Form's Shifting Power Energy gain.
How to test without wasting resources
Editorial checklist: record build, talent ranks, Base Mana and any shapeshift-cost effects. Compare Mana spent, Energy before/after and cooldown with each talent rank in a controlled encounter. Avoid activating at near-full Energy just to infer a larger usable gain. No full rotation or best-in-slot result has been independently tested here.
Wolfshead Helm and community build claims
The October 8 official item note now confirms five additional Energy when Shifting Power is used. Earlier community observations are historical; no universal best-in-slot recommendation follows from this interaction.
What remains uncertain
Exact client interactions across items, root-breaking assumptions, long-fight Mana efficiency and the optimal Feral rotation remain unverified here. Community calculations and disagreements about gameplay pace do not change the official 40 Energy, base-Mana cost or cooldown description.
Tiger's Fury requests are not new patch notes
October 1–3 feedback debates the loss of Tiger's Fury and whether Mana-to-Energy conversion feels worthwhile. An October 4 'Feral saved' post explicitly presents an unofficial redesign concept. Its proposed removal of Shifting Power and return of Tiger's Fury are not announced implementations. Test the published cost and Energy gain on your own talents rather than treating a forum concept as the latest tree.
October 8: full Energy and Wolfshead Helm
Shifting Power cannot be used at full Energy. Wolfshead Helm now grants five additional Energy when Shifting Power is used. This updates the earlier unconfirmed gear discussion without establishing best-in-slot status, an optimal rotation or long-fight efficiency.
