WoW Forever Priest Leveling: Mana, Wands & Shadow Changes
Choose a practical Priest leveling approach using announced talent changes, Mana/wand comparisons and dungeon XP context—not an untested fastest route or level-60 ranking.
Quick answer
Forever changes Priest's low-level toolkit across Discipline, Holy and Shadow, but does not establish one fastest leveling build. Start by separating spell damage, wand damage and Mana downtime in your own current-level comparisons. Some players report difficult low-level sustain; others find Priest leveling comfortable. The cap-30 Beta cannot settle level-60 performance, and reduced extra dungeon quest XP is not a 50% cut to every source of leveling XP.

Low-level Mana complaints: dated experience, not a universal verdict
The September 25 leveling thread contains weak-Smite and frequent-drinking complaints from the earlier cap-20 phase, with conflicting wand advice. October 3 dungeon discussion also includes a player finding Priest leveling to 30 easy. Gear, level, talents and pull size differ. Treat these as experiences to investigate, not damage data proving all Priests are weak.
Wands versus spells: compare the actual setup
Blizzard reduces Wand Specialization to two points for the same benefit. That does not supply a new full wand-scaling formula. Editorial test: compare similar targets using the same wand, buffs and level; record spell ranks, damage, time, Mana remaining and drinking afterward. Do not infer spell-power scaling from a single tooltip or import a Classic wand benchmark as verified Forever behavior.
Mana management without a fake optimal rotation
Record a few ordinary single-target pulls before changing talents. If you repeatedly run out of Mana, compare one lower-cost sequence or a wand finish, then include recovery time—not just combat damage—in the result. Carry appropriate consumables and stop a comparison that produces unsafe pulls. This is a testing method, not a guarantee that wanding or a particular spell order is fastest.
Discipline: damage and resource options
The official redesign adds Power in Light and Twin Disciplines, brings Mental Agility earlier and strengthens Meditation. Soul Warding is the 16-point milestone; Penance needs 21 points. At level 30, do not present a normal full-21-point setup as already available without checking actual talent access. Read current requirements before spending trainer gold.
Holy: damage, healing and Mana trade-offs
Searing Light adds a Holy Fire interaction that can make Holy Nova free; Litany of Light refunds Mana when consecutive healing spell names differ. Binding Heal is a 16-point talent. These announced mechanics do not prove Holy wins a leveling-speed comparison. Choose a toolkit for the content you actually play and test accessible ranks rather than filling out an endgame build at a lower cap.
Shadow and baseline abilities at the current cap
All Priests receive Fear Ward and Devouring Plague at 20, Divine Spirit at 30 and Shadow Word: Death at 32. Shadow Weaving is personal; revised Vampiric Embrace is available earlier. October 1 corrects Shadow Weaving application and Devouring Plague critical strikes. Shadow Word: Death is above the current cap; a later Shadowform build is not a verified level-30 rotation.
Why dungeon XP matters to healing-focused players
October 1 reduces the extra dungeon quest bonus by 50%, not ordinary quest XP and not every run's total reward. Some healers dislike fewer repeat-run leveling incentives; others value practice, drops and helping friends. Those preferences do not quantify a guaranteed tank/healer shortage or prove a solo specialization is mandatory. Compare first-run quests with repeat clears in the Dungeon XP guide.
What cannot be extrapolated to level 60
This guide does not provide a best route, XP per hour, final talent prescription, wand coefficient or DPS tier list. Higher-level abilities, gear and tuning can change the comparison. For a reproducible bug, report level, build, spell/talent ranks and combat evidence; use the dedicated Shadow guide for its mechanism debate rather than treating every Mana complaint as a confirmed defect.
Penance: read healing, damage and Mana separately
The dedicated Penance guide explains the October 8 correction, rank differences and limits of the current player evidence. Use it before treating a solo-damage complaint as a verdict on healing efficiency.
