Galactic Racer PC Crashes, DLSS & Frame Generation

Diagnose Galactic Racer PC crashes after the October 8 hotfix: driver checks, shader rebuilds, DLSS/Frame Generation and campaign-only reports.

Last checked

Quick answer

Update the game first, then identify when it fails: boot, fullscreen focus, campaign scene or longer play session. October 8 raised graphics-driver checks and improved DLSS stability; NVIDIA 50-series DLSS/Frame Generation cases were officially listed earlier. Test one reversible graphics change at a time. There is no confirmed universal memory-leak fix or FPS setting that repairs every crash.

Boot failure or a longer shader rebuild?

The official hotfix warns that the first launch after updating a graphics driver rebuilds the shader cache and may take longer. A busy initial shader pass is different from an application closing or an error dialog. Record how long you waited and any message; do not repeatedly terminate a progressing rebuild or assume a fixed waiting time applies to all PCs.

Driver and installation checks

Use a current driver from your GPU vendor and note its exact version. The hotfix does not publish one driver number for all hardware. Verify Steam files before destructive reinstall attempts; verification repairs installation content, not a confirmed save or GPU defect.

  1. Finish the game update and restart the game normally.
  2. Record GPU model and driver version; use the vendor's normal update route, not an unofficial driver pack.
  3. In Steam Properties, open Installed Files and Verify integrity of game files.
  4. Reproduce once with the same scene and note whether the result changed.

DLSS and Frame Generation: isolate the setting

Some NVIDIA 50-series combinations were officially acknowledged at launch. October 8's DLSS stability fixes are narrower than an all-PC repair. If available on your system, compare the same scene with Frame Generation disabled, then test upscaling separately. Keep resolution and other settings steady, record the result and restore your preference when the comparison is complete.

Fullscreen focus versus campaign crashes

The official list describes flickering or unresponsiveness when changing focus in fullscreen; a reversible window-mode comparison can help distinguish that symptom. October 10/11 players also describe campaign crashes while multiplayer works. Those accounts are community evidence, not confirmation that campaign files, a driver or a memory leak caused the failure. One player's FPS-menu anecdote is not a reliable fix.

Long-session reports need timing, not a guessed cause

A failure after prolonged play can have several causes. Record session duration, scene transition, system temperatures if normally available, and whether a normal restart changes the symptom. Do not infer a leak solely from elapsed time or memory use. Save-loss reports belong in the support ticket separately from intended Tour reset behavior.

What not to do

Do not edit undocumented engine driver lists, modify the registry, delete saves or disable security protections. Send logs or crash messages requested by official support with platform, version, scene, GPU and driver. An error-code connection failure needs the multiplayer guide rather than these graphics checks.

October 12: general stability hotfix

Fuse Games released general stability fixes on October 12. The short note does not name additional repaired DLSS, party, overlay or save cases. Install the current build and report a reproducible remaining symptom; retain October 8's specific driver/cache and DLSS guidance without calling every crash fixed.

New October 16 crash reports do not identify one new cause

Fresh players describe crashes after the update, but the small discussion does not prove a universal regression or a DLSS, RAM or storage root cause. Keep the October 8 DLSS changes and October 12 general hotfix as scoped history. Record build, mode, driver, crash timing and whether the same scene fails in a controlled comparison; send the report through official support without deleting saves or importing unverified system tweaks.
