Gears E-Day PC Performance & Starting Settings
Final E-Day PC requirements, practical settings tests, CPU-heavy scenes, upscaling and Frame Generation limits without an every-PC best-settings promise.
Quick answer
The October 14 official patch targets optimization and long-session performance degradation with memory improvements. Compare a repeatable scene on the updated build before changing one reversible setting. Startup access failures, transition stutter and gradually falling FPS are different symptoms; the patch supplies no guaranteed FPS gain or proof all performance reports are fixed.
Current status: October 14 patch and remaining reports
October 14 includes memory improvements targeting crashes and performance decline during long sessions across PC, Xbox and handhelds, plus stability/optimization changes. This officially confirms that scope—not one universal memory-leak diagnosis or every LowLevelFatalError fixed. Campaign achievement/reward problems remain explicitly under investigation.
Post-launch: textures and transition stutter
Recent players describe low-detail character geometry/textures and area-transition hitches on both Steam and Game Pass PC. Some suggest storage or engine causes, but replies disagree. Record the same scene, settings and install platform; do not disable engine features, anti-cheat or alter BIOS based on these anecdotes.

October 7 recheck: patch scope versus new reports
The October 5 released patch improves stability, performance, hardware compatibility and online sessions; it does not declare every crash fixed. New October 7 search-discovered threads raise CTD/freeze and settings questions, but their full text could not be independently retrieved in this review. Those newer details remain unverified and no setting recipe is adopted. Earlier directly read LowLevelFatalError and longer-session reports remain separate; record your actual patch/version and repeat a controlled comparison rather than assuming a universal memory leak.
October 5 update: patch first, then retest
The Coalition released stability, performance and hardware-compatibility improvements, improved Xbox authentication when the device clock is substantially wrong, and addressed specific multiplayer/campaign failures. It does not identify every PC crash as a memory leak, name a universal DLSS fix or publish a guaranteed FPS gain. Confirm the update is installed, then repeat the same test and report remaining errors.

Final minimum versus recommended requirements
These are the October 5 publisher-maintained retail lists; meeting minimum does not promise 4K or a fixed frame rate. The September 28 final-spec chart is the resolution-target reference—do not invent a resolution/FPS guarantee from the text-only minimum list.
| Item | Current information |
|---|---|
| Minimum CPU / RAM | Ryzen 5 2600X, Core i7-6850K or i5-10400; 12 GB RAM. |
| Minimum GPU | RTX 5050 or RTX 2060; Radeon RX 6600 or RX 9060. Hardware ray tracing required. |
| Recommended CPU / RAM | Ryzen 5 5600 or Core i5-11600K; 16 GB RAM. |
| Recommended GPU | RTX 5060 or RTX 3060 Ti; Radeon RX 6700 XT or RX 9060 XT. |
| OS / storage | 64-bit Windows 10 minimum (publisher lists build 19045.7291); Windows 11 25H2 or newer recommended. DirectX 12; 115 GB available SSD space, plus room for updates. |
Starting settings and what to change first
Diagnostic workflow, not an official preset: use the built-in benchmark and one representative gameplay scene. Note resolution, preset, upscaler, frame cap and driver. Test one change at a time, keep the same route and compare both responsiveness and stability.
- Start at your display's normal resolution with a conservative preset and Frame Generation off.
- If reducing render resolution improves performance, test a supported quality upscaler.
- If it barely changes performance, compare CPU-heavy scenes, background load and a sensible frame cap.
- Retest individual effects instead of changing every option at once; keep the better stable result.
Upscaling, Frame Generation and the benchmark overlay
The retail listing advertises DLSS 4.5, FSR Redstone and optional Frame/Multi Frame Generation on supported hardware. Generated frames are not the same as higher simulation performance. Official launch notes say the Performance Overlay does not count generated frames, so its lower readout alone is not proof the feature failed.

CPU-heavy scenes and Low Core Mode
Tom's Hardware's original 25-CPU tests found substantial CPU demand. Low Core Mode reduced performance on their normal test configurations, while helping an artificially limited two-core case. That is independent test evidence, not a universal preset recommendation: compare it on your own system rather than assuming it boosts every PC.

Stutter, drivers and storage
A frame-time spike, low sustained FPS and a crash are different symptoms. Record whether trouble begins immediately, when assets load or only after a long session. Use supported vendor drivers and an SSD; no single driver version or hardware cause is proven for all players. For shutdowns or LowLevelFatalError, use the dedicated crash guide.
Do not transfer one player's crash settings to every PC
New reports include startup access and in-game crashes with conflicting outcomes. A player's driver/settings combination is not an official fix or measured FPS gain. Follow the published requirements, test one reversible in-game change, and distinguish a failed service request from rendering stutter.
